This Enduring CME Bundle includes 25 CME credits. The AAPA Review Panel has awarded a maximum of 25 AAPA Category I CME credits for this program. The program also includes 4 hours of controlled substance CME and 14 hours of pharmacology. The courses were recorded from October 16 – October 20, 2024, during SCAPA’s Annual CME Conference.

Sessions must be viewed by October 7, 2025, to earn credit. You are responsible for contacting SCAPA to report that you have completed all courses and surveys before the deadline.

OBJECTIVES
– A true understanding of how the program Alcoholics Anonymous can support healthcare professionals and their patients who need recovery from alcoholism
– An awareness of the depth and breadth of the resources of the A.A. program and how to engage these resources.
– An awareness of the singleness of purpose of A.A., which focuses solely on the treatment of alcoholism, and that A.A. works cooperatively with medical professionals, who in turn may address problems other than alcohol.

– Engage in specific guided activities and exercises that will teach you how to resolve disruption in your physical, mental, spiritual, and behavioral responses to stress, while staying connected to purpose and satisfaction.

Overview of Common Mental Health Disorders in Primary Care – Laura McElhaney, DHSc, MHE, PA-C
OBJECTIVES
– Describe common chief complaints and differential diagnoses related to mental health disorders in primary care settings.
– Identify appropriate screening tools for common mental health complaints in primary care settings.
– Develop clinical interventions to include pharmacotherapeutics, therapies and referrals for mental health disorders in primary care settings.

The Heat is On: Hormone Replacement Therapy Updates for 2024 – Breann Garbas, DHSc, PA-C
OBJECTIVES
– Discuss physiologic change occurring in perimenopause, menopause, and post-menopause.
– Discuss laboratory testing commonly associated with menopausal changes.
– Apply current guidelines to appropriately prescribe hormone replacement therapy for a patient without contraindications.
– Identify those patients requiring alternatives to hormone replacement therapy.

– Explore the syncope rules to establish a patient that has a life-threatening presentation.
– Review the pathophysiology of vasovagal and orthostatic syncope.
– Examine the EKG changes associated with syncope.

Preventing RSV: Providing Older Patients with the Information They Need – Sarah McQueen DMS, PA-C – This AAPA Clinical Case Challenge Series is supported by an independent educational grant from GSK and is being created and managed in collaboration with The France Foundation and the American Thoracic Society.
OBJECTIVES
– Describe the pathophysiology of RSV in adults, as well as its overall prevalence and incidence rates among this patient population
– Summarize the disease burden of RSV in U.S. adults, with a focus on hospitalizations, comorbidities, and related health disparities
– Assess emerging data for RSV vaccine candidates to determine their potential role in future prevention strategies for older adults

Improving the Understanding, Diagnosis, and Management of Generalized Pustular Psoriasis – Leigh Ann Pansch, MSN, FNP-BC, DNCP – This AAPA Clinical Case. Challenge Series is supported by an unrestricted educational grant from Boehringer Ingelheim.
OBJECTIVES
– Describe the pathophysiology of GPP related to other skin conditions such as plaque psoriasis
– Identify the diagnostic criteria for GPP and how they are used in diagnosing and assessing disease severity over time
– Identify comorbidities associated with GPP
– Recall the latest clinical research related to potential current and future options for the management of GPP
– Describe the burden of disease of GPP from a holistic standpoint, incorporating clinical and psychosocial elements including motivational interviewing to impact behavior change course

Controlled Substance: Opioids: Exploring Mechanisms, Effects, and Clinical Applications – Josh Allen, PharmD
OBJECTIVES
– Describe the legal classification of controlled substances and discuss the implications for prescribing opiates
– Explain the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of common opiates, including their mechanisms of action, therapeutic uses, and potential for abuse.
– Recognize the common and serious adverse effects associated with opiate use, such as respiratory depression, constipation, nausea, and sedation
– Apply strategies for safe and effective prescribing of opiates, including dose titration, monitoring for efficacy and side effects, and the use of the lowest effective dose.
